Main image

Nki National Park is a remote rainforest park in southeastern Cameroon within the Congo Basin, known for dense lowland tropical forest and high biodiversity. The park supports populations of forest elephants, gorillas and chimpanzees and is valued for intact primary forest.

The area is notable for its low human population density and for wildlife surveys that have documented large mammals and diverse birdlife. There are no major visitor facilities and the park is important for conservation and research.

Management emphasises protection of habitat and species; fieldwork and guided wildlife trips are arranged through conservation organisations and authorised guides. The park’s remoteness limits casual tourism and helps preserve its ecosystems.

Nki National Park lies in Cameroon’s East Region, in the southeastern part of the country near the border with neighboring Central African countries. It forms part of the larger Congo Basin rainforest landscape.

  • Access: Very remote with limited road access; visits require advance planning, local guides and often river or rough-track travel to reach interior zones.
