The waterfall is a natural feature formed by stream erosion within the forested uplands of Dalarna and lies inside an area of protected upland terrain. It is set within the national park and nature reserve areas of central Dalarna.
- Height and access: The waterfall has a total drop of roughly 93 metres, making it the highest waterfall in Sweden and a popular summer hiking destination due to access trails and viewing points.
Tips for Visiting Njupeskär #
- Plan your visit for late spring or early summer (after snowmelt) when the waterfall's flow is strongest - late-summer droughts can reduce the cascade to a trickle.
- Park at the designated Fulufjället/Njupeskär trailhead and follow the marked trail and boardwalks; the path is the established route to the main viewing platforms and signs guide you to the best vantage points.
- Combine the waterfall visit with other Fulufjället National Park trails to make the most of the remote area; check local weather forecasts before setting out, as conditions can change quickly in the highland plateau.
Best Time to Visit Njupeskär #
Late spring through early autumn (June-September) offers the best access and mildest conditions; winter brings snow and possible access limitations.
