Nisida

Nisida is a small volcanic islet in the Bay of Naples off the western shore of the city of Naples, in the Campania region of Italy. It has a long history of military and institutional use and is physically linked to the mainland by a causeway.

From the surrounding shoreline and nearby neighborhoods such as Bagnoli and Posillipo, Nisida appears as a compact island with a visible fortified complex and shoreline retaining walls. The islet itself contains built structures rather than beaches or public parkland and is not generally operated as a tourist destination.

The islet has hosted successive military and institutional installations over the centuries, including a fortified compound and later uses as detention and rehabilitation facilities. Its buildings reflect that history rather than a recreational or natural-park function.

Nisida sits in the western part of the Bay of Naples, adjacent to the Bagnoli district of Naples and a short distance offshore from the Neapolitan coastline.
