Ninety Six National Historic Site

Ninety Six National Historic Site preserves the remains of a frontier village and Revolutionary War fortifications in upstate South Carolina. The site is associated with military actions during the American Revolution, notably the prolonged British-held fort and the Patriot siege in 1781.

Trails and interpretive signs lead through earthwork fortifications, archaeological features and reconstructed elements that convey the site’s 18th-century military importance. The park’s visitor centre provides exhibits, maps and orientation for exploring the grounds.

The site dates to the colonial and Revolutionary period and was the focus of military operations in 1775-1781, with the 1781 siege being a key event in its military history. Preservation efforts focus on the earthworks and archaeological record of the town and fort.

Ninety Six NHS is located near the town of Ninety Six and the city of Greenwood in western South Carolina, situated in rolling piedmont countryside several hours’ drive from major metropolitan centres like Atlanta or Charlotte.
