Nieuwe Kerk Delft

Nieuwe Kerk Delft is a large Gothic parish church on Delft’s Markt square, best known as the principal burial place of the Dutch royal House of Orange-Nassau. It dominates the central square and is a major historic landmark in Delft.

Inside there are historic chantries, tombs and memorials, including the sarcophagus of William of Orange, plus a high nave and ornate stonework. The church tower has a public viewing platform that is popular for panoramic views over the city.

The present Gothic building dates to the late medieval period and was constructed over earlier church sites; it has served as Delft’s main parish church for centuries. Over time it became the dynastic burial place for the House of Orange-Nassau.

Sited on Delft’s central Markt square next to the city hall, the church is in the historic centre of Delft in the province of South Holland, within easy walking distance of the railway station and main tourist routes.
