Niedzica Castle (also known as Dunajec Castle) is a fortified medieval complex in southern Poland, situated on a rocky spur overlooking the Dunajec River and the Czorsztyn reservoir. The castle dates back to the late medieval period and is a local historic landmark in the Pieniny foothills.

Internally the site features defensive walls, a prominent keep and a lower courtyard now used for museum displays; the castle is a popular viewpoint with panoramic vistas across the reservoir toward the Pieniny range. Seasonal boat services on the reservoir and nearby walking routes are common ways visitors combine the castle with the local lakeside scenery.

The stronghold was constructed in the late Middle Ages as a border fortification and later passed through regional noble hands, with reconstructions and adaptations over subsequent centuries converting parts of the complex into residential and administrative spaces. Today it functions as a museum and cultural site interpreting its multi-century history.

The castle sits above Niedzica village in Lesser Poland Voivodeship near the Polish-Slovak border, immediately adjacent to the Czorsztyn reservoir and within sight of the Pieniny Mountains.

• Upper castle (keep and viewpoints): The main keep and upper works occupy a rocky promontory above the Dunajec River and reservoir, offering the principal viewpoints and the castle museum rooms.
• Lower courtyard and museum: A lower courtyard and service ranges that today house museum exhibits and visitor facilities interpreting the site’s history and local legends.

Niedzica is about 100 km southeast of Kraków. Drive via the A4 and DK47; public buses connect from Nowy Targ and Zakopane. A short seasonal boat crosses Lake Czorsztyn from the opposite shore, which is a popular and scenic option.

• Arrive before midday to avoid tour buses that dock in the afternoons during summer.
• Take the short boat trip across Lake Czorsztyn to see the castle from the water - the island view is different and worth the extra 15-20 minutes.
• Climb the tower for the best panorama; the stairs are steep and worn, but the view over the Pieniny and Tatra foothills pays off.
