Nggatokae Island

Nggatokae Island is a volcanic island in the New Georgia group of the Solomon Islands, in the Western Province. The island is characterized by rugged topography with a central volcanic caldera and coastal villages.

The interior terrain is steep and largely covered by tropical vegetation, while communities and landing points are concentrated on the shorelines. Local livelihoods are typically based on fishing, small-scale agriculture, and inter-island transport.

The island is reached by small inter-island boats from neighboring islands in the New Georgia archipelago and is part of the regional network of Western Province islands. There are no large urban centers on the island; services and transport are limited and seasonal.

Geographically the island sits among the inner islands of the Solomon Islands archipelago and is administered as part of Western Province.
