The Naukluft Mountains are a rugged mountain range in central Namibia that form part of the larger Namib-Naukluft protected area. The range rises abruptly from the surrounding plains and desert to create steep valleys, rocky ridges and narrow gorges.
The area is used for hiking and nature excursions, with trails that pass through canyons and seasonal streambeds, and it supports desert-adapted plants and wildlife. As a mountainous tract adjoining the Namib Desert, the Naukluft offers contrasting desert and highland scenery and is accessed from roads leading into the Namib-Naukluft park.
Geographically the range sits in central Namibia and is managed as part of the national park system that conserves sections of the Namibian desert and associated upland habitats.
