National Zoo of Malaysia

The National Zoo of Malaysia (Zoo Negara) is the country’s major zoological park located on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur; it opened in 1963. The site was developed as a large, landscaped zoological park intended for conservation, education, and public display.

The zoo presents a wide range of animal exhibits across mammals, birds, reptiles and other groups, with walkways, enclosures, and interpretive displays designed for family visits and school groups. Typical visitor activities include viewing animal enclosures, attending scheduled feedings and keeper talks, and visiting themed exhibit areas across the park.

Established by national authorities in the early 1960s, the zoo has expanded its collections and facilities over decades to support conservation and education programs. Management and exhibit layouts have evolved to accommodate modern husbandry and visitor facilities.

The zoo is located in the Ulu Klang area of the Kuala Lumpur metropolitan region, within the federal territory of Kuala Lumpur. It sits in a suburban, wooded setting north-east of the city center and is accessible by road from central Kuala Lumpur.
