National Stadium
Stadium Major sports stadium hosting concerts and sporting events
At the Singapore Sports Hub, the National Stadium features a retractable roof and hosts football, athletics and concerts. Visitors attend matches, large-scale events and occasional stadium tours.
The National Stadium in Singapore is the centerpiece of the Kallang Sports Hub and serves as the country’s main multi-purpose outdoor stadium. It opened in the 2010s and replaced the earlier stadium on the same site as the national venue for football, athletics and large-scale concerts.
Inside the bowl is a natural-grass pitch and tiered seating for roughly 55,000 spectators, plus corporate boxes and public concourses. The stadium’s retractable roof and movable seating allow conversion between athletics configurations and a pitch-focused layout for football and concerts, enabling year-round event scheduling.
Built as part of the larger Sports Hub redevelopment of the Kallang precinct, the stadium replaced the former National Stadium and was designed to modern standards for multi-sport use and large public events. Since opening it has hosted domestic and international sports fixtures, national ceremonies and large concerts.
The stadium sits in Kallang, on the eastern fringe of Singapore’s central area, adjacent to the Kallang Basin and well served by public transport including the nearby MRT station.
- Capacity and uses: Capacity is about 55,000, making it Singapore's largest stadium and the venue for national football matches and major concerts.
- Design features: The retractable roof permits events in wet weather and the seating can be reconfigured to host athletics or pitch-centred events.

- Roof and seating system: A large retractable roof and adjustable seating configuration that allow quick conversion between athletics and football/comcert setups.

How to Get to National Stadium #
Take the Circle Line (MRT) to Stadium station (CC6) - the Singapore National Stadium at the Sports Hub is a 5-10 minute walk from the station. You can also reach the area from Kallang MRT (East‑West Line) with a longer 10-20 minute walk. By car use Nicoll Highway / Kallang Road and follow signs for the Singapore Sports Hub; the stadium is a short drive east of Singapore’s downtown (Marina Bay) - roughly a 10-20 minute drive in normal traffic.
Tips for Visiting National Stadium #
- Travel by MRT to Stadium station (Circle Line) rather than driving on event days - the station places you on the stadium concourse and avoids event traffic and limited parking.
- If you want a quiet visit, go midweek or during the morning on a non-event day when the pitch and tiers are empty and you can appreciate the stadium's scale and architecture without crowds.
- Don't just pass through the Sports Hub: explore the nearby Kallang Basin waterfront and park connector for different vantage points of the stadium and far fewer visitors than the main plaza.
Best Time to Visit National Stadium #
Go in the relatively drier months (Feb-Apr) for more reliable weather, but plan around the stadium's event schedule since crowds depend on matches and concerts.
