National Park of Nestos Delta and lakes Vistonida-Ismarida

The National Park of Nestos Delta and lakes Vistonida-Ismarida is a protected wetland complex in northeastern Greece that encompasses the Nestos river delta and the adjacent coastal lakes Vistonida and Ismarida. It is recognized for its ecological importance as a coastal wetland system.

The landscape includes delta channels, reedbeds, marshes and shallow brackish lagoons, which provide habitat for waterfowl, waders and other migratory bird species. Visitors come for birdwatching, short nature walks and to observe the wetland environment.

The area has been managed for conservation to protect its hydrology and biodiversity while allowing regulated public access for recreation and education. Conservation measures aim to balance habitat protection with local land and water use.

Located on the northeastern Aegean coast in the region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace, the park lies between the provinces of Kavala and Xanthi where the Nestos river reaches the sea.
