National Museum of Qatar is a modern national museum in Doha designed by Jean Nouvel, opened in 2019 to present the history, heritage and natural environment of Qatar. The building is noted for its interlocking disc architecture, inspired by the desert rose.
Permanent galleries trace themes from early natural history and the pearling economy through to the country’s modern development, using immersive displays and multimedia. The complex integrates the restored 19th-century Al Koot fort with the new museum spaces and includes education and conservation facilities.
The new museum replaced the previous national museum and was commissioned to create a purpose-built cultural institution reflecting national heritage. Its opening in 2019 established a major cultural anchor on the Doha Corniche.
The museum is located on the Corniche in central Doha, adjacent to the waterfront and within walking distance of other cultural landmarks and the city centre.
