The National Library of Kosovo (Biblioteka Kombëtare e Kosovës “Pjetër Bogdani”) is Kosovo’s central library and archival institution, serving as the legal deposit and national bibliographic centre. The library was founded in the mid 20th century and is the main repository for Kosovo’s printed and documentary heritage.
The building in Pristina is notable for its distinctive domed architecture and houses reading rooms, reference collections and special archives covering Kosovo’s cultural and historical records. Collections include materials in Albanian, Serbian and other languages relevant to the region.
The current library building was completed in the late 20th century and designed by architect Andrija Mutnjaković; it functions as both a public research library and a national archive. As the national repository it collects legal deposits and serves scholars, students and the general public.
The library stands close to the University of Pristina campus in the centre of Pristina and is one of the city’s most architecturally recognisable public buildings.
