National Aquarium Denmark

National Aquarium Denmark, marketed as Den Blå Planet, is a large public aquarium near Copenhagen’s airport that presents marine life from local and tropical waters. The facility was developed in the 2010s and features several major tanks and visitor facilities designed for public education and display.

The aquarium was purpose-built as a national aquarium complex in the 21st century to replace earlier smaller facilities and to provide a modern, consolidated public marine centre. Its galleries and exhibits were developed to international aquarium standards and to support conservation messaging.

The aquarium sits in Kastrup, on the island of Amager in the Capital Region of Denmark, close to Copenhagen Airport and linked by local public transport. Its position makes it convenient for visitors arriving or departing through the airport as well as for residents of greater Copenhagen.
