Naschmarkt

Naschmarkt is Vienna’s best-known open-air market running along the Wienzeile in the city’s central district. It dates from longstanding market activity in the area and today combines food stalls, delicatessens and eateries in a linear market strip.

The market offers a wide range of fresh produce, spices, cheeses and prepared foods, with many small restaurants and take-away stalls serving international cuisines. A well-attended flea market operates on Saturdays and attracts both residents and visitors.

Originally the area developed as a market over many centuries; it evolved into the present Naschmarkt layout in the 19th and 20th centuries as fixed stalls and structures were added. Over time it became a central food market and a social meeting place in Vienna.

Naschmarkt sits along the Wienzeile between the Karlsplatz and Kettenbrückengasse U-Bahn stations, adjacent to the inner-city Ringstrasse and near the Spittelberg neighbourhood.
