Namib-Naukluft National Park is a vast protected area in central Namibia that combines high desert dunes, coastal plains, and rugged mountain terrain. The park spans about 49,768 square kilometres and contains the iconic red sand dunes of Sossusvlei, the clay pan of Deadvlei, and the Naukluft Mountains.

Sossusvlei features dunes that can reach about 300 m in height and attract photographers and hikers at sunrise and sunset. Deadvlei is a dry white clay pan dotted with fossilized camel thorn trees and is accessed via a short drive from the Sesriem gate.

The park was formed through the merger of Namibia’s Namib and Naukluft reserves and is managed for its unique desert ecosystems and striking geomorphology. Visitor services are concentrated around Sesriem, with regulated access required into the dune areas to protect fragile desert surfaces.

Geographically the park lies in the southern Namib Desert, extending inland from the central Namib coast; the main tourist entrance at Sesriem is roughly 300 km southwest of Windhoek by road.
