MuseumsQuartier

MuseumsQuartier (MQ) is a large cultural complex in central Vienna that brings together major museums, exhibition spaces and cultural institutions in a series of connected courtyards and buildings. It is one of the city’s primary cultural hubs for modern and contemporary art, design and architecture.

Within the MQ are notable institutions such as the Leopold Museum (modern Austrian art), MUMOK (modern and contemporary art), Kunsthalle Wien and the Architekturzentrum, alongside cafés, studios and performance spaces. The outdoor courtyards and piazzas are used year-round for festivals, markets and public events.

The site was redeveloped around the turn of the 21st century to convert former imperial stables and surrounding plots into a mixed cultural campus, and it now functions as both an exhibition district and a social meeting place in the city’s 7th district.

MuseumsQuartier is located west of the historic Ringstraße and Hofburg area, in Vienna’s museum quarter and within easy walking distance of the city centre.
