Museumplein

Museumplein is a large public square and park in Amsterdam’s museum quarter, surrounded by several of the Netherlands’ major cultural institutions. It functions as an urban green space and event site in the southern part of the city.

The square is bordered by the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Stedelijk Museum, and the Concertgebouw lies on its southern edge. The open lawn and paved areas host an outdoor ice rink in winter, festivals, concerts and temporary exhibitions.

The plaza was developed to serve the museums built around it from the late 19th century onward and remains the principal pedestrian space connecting these institutions. It lies in the Oud-Zuid neighborhood, within walking distance of the city center and tram connections.
