Museo Storico Navale

The Museo Storico Navale is Venice’s municipal naval history museum located in the Castello district near the Arsenale. It presents maritime material relating to the Venetian Republic and later Italian naval history.

A large number of ship models, naval weapons, maps and uniforms collected from the 16th century onward; exhibition rooms display scale models and navigational instruments across several galleries. The museum’s holdings illustrate shipbuilding, naval warfare and maritime trade rather than a single flagship object.

The institution was founded in the early 20th century to preserve Venice’s naval heritage and has since been expanded with donations and state collections. Over time the displays have been reorganized to emphasize ship models and documentary material.

The museum sits in Venice’s Castello sestiere, adjacent to the historic Arsenale docks and within walking distance of the Riva degli Schiavoni and San Marco area.
