Mumba Devi Temple is a Hindu shrine in South Mumbai dedicated to the goddess Mumbadevi, the local deity from whom the city takes its name. It is a focal point of devotion within the old city and a well-known local landmark.

A relatively small, active temple complex set within a dense urban market area, frequented by worshippers and passersby. The temple interior houses the image of the goddess and is busiest during festival days and mornings.

The deity Mumbadevi has been associated with the historic settlement that became Mumbai; the present temple in Bhuleshwar is the locally recognised shrine for the goddess and has served as a community religious centre for centuries.

Driving in central Mumbai uses the main arterial roads around the area (local taxis and autorickshaws are the simplest option for last-mile access).

• Go early on a weekday morning to observe daily puja rituals inside the compact Bhuleshwar/Kalbadevi temple area before the neighbouring markets become very crowded.
• Approach from the quieter lanes off Kalbadevi Road or Bhuleshwar market streets to avoid the busiest thoroughfares; the temple sits down narrow alleys where most tourists enter from the main market.
• Look beyond the main shrine: local devotees and small altars around the temple complex preserve older styles and practices that are often missed by hurried visitors.
• If you want to photograph the interior, ask respectfully at the shrine-space is tight and the priest controls access during busy periods, so a brief wait can pay off.
