Müggelsee is a freshwater lake in the eastern part of Berlin and is the largest lake located entirely within the city’s administrative area. It is a well-known local recreational destination for boating, swimming and walking.

The lake has beaches, small marinas and watersport facilities along its shoreline and is ringed by paths and suburban parkland. Leisure activities increase in summer, when the lake is used for sailing, rowing and public bathing.

Müggelsee sits in the Treptow-Köpenick borough of Berlin, to the southeast of the city center, and is accessible by public transport from central Berlin.

Müggelsee is the large lake in Berlin’s southeast (Köpenick area). Take the S‑bahn S3 toward Erkner and get off at Bahnhof Köpenick or Rahnsdorf, then change to a local bus or walk to nearby lakeside access points (some shore sections are a 20-30 minute walk from the stations). By car it lies roughly 20-30 km east of central Berlin - expect about 30-45 minutes drive depending on traffic.

• Aim for weekday mornings or weekday evenings in summer to avoid the heaviest weekend crowds that descend on the lake and bathing beaches.
• The lake is easily reached from central Berlin via S‑Bahn to Köpenick and then a short local bus or cycle ride to the shoreline - plan that last leg in advance as services are less frequent than in the city centre.
• Consider taking one of the regular passenger boat services or renting a small boat to see the lake from the water; many visitors who stick to the shoreline miss the lake's islands and quieter bays.
