Mount Sumbing is a stratovolcano in Central Java, Indonesia, with an elevation near 3,371 metres. It sits close to another major volcano, Mount Sindoro, forming a distinctive pair on the Javanese highlands.

The mountain is a popular objective for hikers and climbers who ascend for panoramic views over the Dieng Plateau and surrounding regencies. Its high elevation produces montane and alpine environments near the summit.

Sumbing is a volcanic edifice formed by successive eruptions and lava deposits; it shares geological history with the volcanic arc of Java. Local communities have long used the surrounding slopes for agriculture and as geographical reference points.

The volcano straddles regency boundaries in Central Java and rises above the agricultural lowlands and highland plateaus of the island’s interior.

  • Elevation and neighbouring peak: Reaches about 3,371 metres and forms a prominent twin-volcano skyline together with nearby Mount Sindoro in Central Java.
