Mount Siguniang (Siguniangshan), known in English as Four Girls Mountain, is a mountain group and protected area in western Sichuan province whose highest summit reaches roughly 6,250 metres.

The area is centered on four adjacent peaks of increasing technical difficulty; the highest peak is a high-altitude alpine climb while the lower peaks and their valleys offer trekking routes, meadows and forested scenery. Changping Valley and nearby trails provide accessible day hikes and multi-day treks for visitors.

The mountain group has cultural significance for local Tibetan and Qiang communities and has been developed as a national park to protect its alpine landscapes and biodiversity. Over recent decades the area has grown as a destination for trekking and mountaineering.

Located in western Sichuan province in the Qionglai mountain region, the massif sits within Siguniangshan National Park and is accessed from towns and base villages in the Aba Tibetan and Qiang area.

  • Highest peak and technicality: The highest of the Four Sisters reaches roughly 6,250 metres and requires technical alpine climbing skills and permits for an ascent.
  • Trekking options: Lower peaks and valley routes are popular for trekking, horseback rides and relatively short multi-day hikes within Siguniangshan National Park.

How to Get to Mount Siguniang #

Most visitors approach Mount Siguniang from Chengdu (Sichuan’s capital). From Chengdu you can take an intercity bus or hire a private car toward Xiaojin County and the gateway town of Rilong (the usual trailhead base); the road into the national-park area is a mountain route and local shuttles or taxis operate between Rilong and the park entrances. From Rilong the trailheads and park facilities are a short local drive or a walk of a few kilometres depending on which valley you are visiting.

Tips for Visiting Mount Siguniang #

  • Use Rilong town (the park gateway) as your entry point and base - most organized trailheads and park services operate from there, so plan arrival/logistics through Rilong rather than trying to approach from remote roads.
  • Visit between late spring and early autumn (roughly April-October) when trails and access roads are least likely to be closed by snow; winter approaches bring heavy snow and many routes are impassable.
  • Start hikes very early in the morning to get clear mountain views before afternoon cloud and to avoid the busiest periods at popular viewpoints and shuttle pick‑ups.
  • If you plan multi‑day or high‑altitude routes, arrange a local guide/porter and allow a day or two to acclimatize in Rilong or Chengdu beforehand - the higher peaks are technical and logistics are handled locally.
