Mount Seymour Provincial Park
Park Near-city mountain park offering skiing, trails, and viewpoints
North Vancouver’s Mount Seymour Park provides ski runs, snowshoe routes and summer hiking near Vancouver; visitors use groomed trails, alpine meadows and viewpoints over Burrard Inlet and the city.
Mount Seymour Provincial Park is a protected area on the North Shore of Burrard Inlet in British Columbia, Canada, centered on Mount Seymour and its adjacent alpine ridges. The mountain rises to about 1,449 metres and forms a prominent recreational landscape close to the Vancouver metropolitan area.
The park offers alpine and subalpine hiking on a network of trails that reach three main summits-First, Second and Third Peaks-with panoramic views from the highest point. In winter the lower slopes are used for lift-served downhill skiing and snowboard operations and for nordic, snowshoe and backcountry activities beyond the ski area boundary.
The area was set aside and managed by provincial authorities as a recreation and conservation area in the 20th century and has been developed incrementally for winter sports and public trail access while retaining alpine conservation zones. Management has balanced day-use recreation, a small resort footprint and protection of sensitive high-elevation habitats.
The park sits on the North Shore mountains of Metro Vancouver in British Columbia, a short drive from the city’s northern suburbs and the Lions Gate and Second Narrows crossings. It occupies steep terrain rising directly above the Burrard Inlet and is accessed from roads climbing out of North Vancouver.
- Access: Access is commonly via Mount Seymour Road from the North Vancouver suburb; seasonal road and parking restrictions can apply in winter.
- Summit elevation: The highest summit is roughly 1,449 metres, and the park includes subalpine and alpine environments with rocky ridges and forested lower slopes.
What to See #
- First, Second and Third Peaks: Three main summits known locally as First, Second and Third Peaks form the core alpine terrain; the highest summit of the group reaches about 1,449 metres and provides the park's principal viewpoints.
