Mount Rishiri

Mount Rishiri is a volcanic cone that dominates Rishiri Island off the northwest coast of Hokkaido. The mountain is the island’s central feature and is visible from the surrounding sea, forming a distinctive conical profile.

Hiking the mountain is the primary reason people visit the island; the main route climbs steeply from near the harbour and requires a full day for ascent and descent on most itineraries. The summit offers wide coastal views and is often clear on calm weather days.
