The Mount of Beatitudes is a low hill on the northwestern shore of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel, marked by a modern pilgrimage church commemorating the Sermon on the Mount. A Franciscan chapel with an octagonal plan stands on the summit and has been a focus for Christian pilgrims.
The site offers panoramic views over the Sea of Galilee and nearby pilgrimage sites; the chapel, landscaped terraces, and quiet paths are the main draws. The hill is compact and typically visited together with nearby Tabgha and Capernaum.
Archaeological work has revealed remains of a Byzantine monastery and mosaic floors dating to the early Christian period; the modern church was constructed in the 20th century by the Franciscan custodians. The site has been continuously recognized as a Christian holy place since at least the Byzantine era.
