Mount Narodnaya

Mountain Highest peak of the Urals, remote tundra mountain

The Ural Mountains’ highest summit, Mount Narodnaya draws experienced mountaineers to remote tundra routes and glaciated ridgelines; access typically requires long overland travel or river approaches.

Main image

Mount Narodnaya is the highest peak of the Ural Mountains in Russia, reaching approximately 1,895 meters. It marks the watershed between European and Asian Russia and is the range’s most prominent summit.

The mountain features alpine tundra and rocky terrain rather than high alpine glaciation, and it is visited mainly by parties interested in high-pointing the Urals and remote wilderness trekking. Routes are typically long and remote, requiring overland travel and river or trail approaches.

Historically it is recognised as the Urals’ highest summit and has been part of Russian geographical exploration and mapping of the range. Over time access has remained relatively limited compared with major alpine areas elsewhere.

Mount Narodnaya stands in the northern Ural region of Russia, within the broader Ural chain that separates the European and Asian parts of the country.

  • Highest point of the Urals: At roughly 1,895 meters it is the highest peak of the Ural Mountains and a recognised geographic high point of the range.
