Mountain High alpine peak in Taiwan's central mountain range

Mount Nanhu is a high mountain in Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range located on the border of Hualien and Taichung areas; its summit reaches about 3,742 meters and it is listed among Taiwan’s “100 Peaks.”
The mountain is known as a challenging, high-alpine objective. Routes typically require multi-day hiking with steep, rocky sections and some route-finding above tree line; hikers often plan for strong winds and cold nights.
Early mountaineering surveys and modern Taiwanese alpine clubs established the common trekking routes in the 20th century; the peak became widely recognized after the publication of Taiwan’s 100 Peaks list.
Geographically it sits in central-eastern Taiwan within the Central Mountain Range, roughly several tens of kilometers inland from Taiwan’s east coast and within the alpine zone of Taiwan’s high mountains.
- Alpine route: Ranked among Taiwan's list of '100 Peaks' and frequently climbed as a multi-day alpine route that requires off-trail navigation and alpine experience.
- Weather and gear: Weather can change rapidly above 3,000 meters so overnight gear and cold-weather clothing are essential for trips.
