Mount Muir is a peak on the Mount Whitney massif in the Sierra Nevada of California, United States. It stands at roughly 13,000 feet (about 3,960 metres) and lies immediately adjacent to the Mount Whitney area.
A common objective for experienced hikers and mountaineers, the summit is reached by scrambling from the Mount Whitney Trail and nearby ridgelines; the final slopes are exposed and require careful movement. The peak offers close views of Mount Whitney and the surrounding high Sierra crests.
The peak is named for naturalist John Muir and forms part of the high-elevation alpine landscape long used for mountaineering and high-country travel. It sits near the boundary of Sequoia National Park and the Inyo National Forest.
Geographically it occupies the Sierra Nevada crest in eastern California, just south of the Mount Whitney summit and accessible from the Whitney Portal trailhead on the western side of the range.

How to Get to Mount Muir #
Mount Muir is accessed from the Mount Whitney Trail in the Sierra Nevada. Most parties begin at Whitney Portal (off Highway 395) and acquire permits for overnight or day use as required by the Inyo National Forest / National Park permit systems.

- Carry ice axe and crampons in shoulder seasons-the ridge can retain snow and ice well into summer.
- Expect exposure-the final ridge to the summit is narrow and requires comfort on rock and mixed terrain.
