Tips for Visiting Mount Merbabu #

  • Plan for an overnight/sunrise hike - many walkers camp on Merbabu's ridges to watch the sunrise over nearby Merapi, which gives the best views before clouds build later in the day.
  • Use one of the established park entrances and register at the national park gate on arrival; there are several marked trails so check the route, recent trail conditions and weather at the gate before setting off.
  • Hike during the dry season (roughly May-September) to avoid the heavy rains and slippery volcanic soil that make ascents and descent more hazardous.
