Mount Logan
Mountain Canada's highest peak in Yukon, heavily glaciated
In Yukon’s St. Elias range, Mount Logan is Canada’s highest peak with extensive glaciers in Kluane National Park. Climbers attempt long, technical expeditions; scientists study its icefields and remote flights depart from Haines Junction for access.
Mount Logan is the highest mountain in Canada, rising to approximately 5,959 metres in the St. Elias Mountains of Yukon. The massif is extremely large, with wide glaciated slopes and multiple subsidiary summits that contribute to its high massif elevation.
The mountain lies within Kluane National Park and Reserve and is known for its long glaciers, heavy snow accumulation and remote access. Climbs approach from glacier bases and require extended glacier travel, with serious logistical planning and high-altitude mountaineering experience.
Named for the Canadian geologist Sir William Edmond Logan, the main summit was first reached in 1925 by a Canadian expedition. Mount Logan’s remote northern location and large relief make weather and logistics the dominant challenges for expeditions.
Mount Logan sits in southwestern Yukon near the border with Alaska, within the protected area of Kluane National Park and Reserve. The surrounding landscape is dominated by high glaciated peaks and broad icefields.
