Mount Lao (Laoshan) is a coastal granite massif on the Shandong Peninsula in eastern China, immediately east of the city of Qingdao. Its highest summit, Jufeng, reaches about 1,132 meters.
The area combines steep granite peaks, coastal cliffs and sea-facing trails that provide panoramic views of the Yellow Sea. Visitors come for day hikes, temple visits and coastal scenery; the mountain’s trails and historic Taoist sites are accessible from Qingdao.
Mount Lao has been an important center of Taoist practice for many centuries and contains temples and monastic complexes associated with that tradition. The mountain’s religious and cultural role has made it a continuous destination for pilgrimage and local tourism.
Laoshan rises on the Shandong coast east of downtown Qingdao, on the edge of the Yellow Sea, and is reached from the city by a short drive.
