Main image

Mount Juneau is a mountain overlooking the city of Juneau, Alaska, with a summit elevation of 3,576 ft (1,090 m). It forms a prominent part of the local skyline east of the Gastineau Channel.

Hiking routes lead to the summit for panoramic views of downtown Juneau, Douglas Island and, on clear days, nearby glaciers and icefields. Lower slopes are dominated by temperate rainforest while upper slopes are steeper and rockier, so climbs typically involve significant elevation gain.

The peak is a natural feature of the Coast Mountains and lies within the traditional territory of the Tlingit people. Over the 20th and 21st centuries it has been used primarily for local recreation and trail access rather than developed infrastructure.

Mount Juneau rises immediately above the city of Juneau in southeastern Alaska, directly across the Gastineau Channel from Douglas Island.

  • Elevation: 3,576 ft (1,090 m).
  • Access: Trail routes are steep and move from temperate rainforest into rocky alpine terrain; expect full elevation gain and sections that are poorly maintained in winter.
