Mount Hakodate is a volcanic cone overlooking the city of Hakodate in southern Hokkaido, Japan. It rises to about 334 meters and is a well-established urban viewpoint with a developed summit park.
The mountain’s best-known feature is the ridge-top observation area that provides panoramic views of Hakodate, the bay and the Tsugaru Strait; the city lights at night are a principal draw. The summit is reached by the Hakodateyama Ropeway, by a short drive up a paved road, or by several hiking trails.

For those on foot, the Eastern slope trail begins near Motomachi and is a roughly 1.5-2 hour climb.
