Mount Fumaiolo

Monte Fumaiolo is a mountain in Emilia-Romagna in the northern Apennines. It reaches roughly 1,407 meters and is best known as the traditional source of the River Tiber.

A compact highland area with beech forest and open ridges, the summit zone contains the spring complex that feeds the Tiber and a small monument marking the source. Short trails and roads reach the high plateau, making the spring and summit accessible in a single-day visit.

The site has been identified as the Tiber’s source since antiquity and has long been a local landmark; the spring and nearby monument are the principal named features at the top.

The mountain sits in the northern Apennines of central Italy, near the regional border area between Emilia-Romagna and adjacent central regions, with the nearest regional towns reached by mountain roads.
