Mount Ch4dkai is a prominent stratovolcano on the border of Yamagata and Akita prefectures in northern Honshu, Japan, reaching roughly 2,236 metres in height. It is a well-known landmark in the Tohoku region for both its shape and religious associations.

Hikers and pilgrims use several established routes to its summit, with alpine vegetation giving way to rocky slopes near the top; seasonal snow covers the peak much of the year. The mountain is visible from surrounding plains and coastal areas and is famous locally for its scenic, often symmetrical profile.

The mountain has a long cultural and religious presence, with mountain worship and pilgrimage historically associated with its flanks. Geologically it is an established volcanic cone with a history of eruptions in Holocene times.

Situated on the boundary of Yamagata and Akita prefectures, the mountain rises directly from coastal plains on the Sea of Japan side of northern Honshu and dominates the local landscape.

  • Elevation: Rises to about 2,236 metres, making it a prominent coastal volcano on the Sea of Japan side of northern Honshu.
  • Nickname: Often nicknamed "Dewa Fuji" or "Akita Fuji" for its symmetrical, snow-capped profile and cultural prominence in the region.
