Mother Armenia
Monument Monumental statue commemorating Armenian soldiers and resilience
On Yerevan’s Victory Park hill, the Mother Armenia statue forms part of a military museum and memorial complex; visitors combine panoramic city views with wartime exhibits.
Mother Armenia is a large commemorative statue and monument located in Victory Park overlooking central Yerevan; it was erected in the late 1960s as a national memorial.
The site functions as a city viewpoint and memorial area, with broad terraces and a museum space within the pedestal that presents military exhibits. The statue itself is a prominent landmark on the city skyline and is often visited for panoramic views and commemorative ceremonies.
The current female-figure monument replaced an earlier Soviet-era statue and was completed in the 1960s as part of a larger Victory Park redevelopment. The pedestal contains a museum dedicated to military history and to memorialising the country’s wartime sacrifices.
The monument stands on a hill in Victory Park on the northwest edge of central Yerevan, within the administrative boundaries of the capital and easily accessible from the city centre.
- Viewing point: Provides an elevated city viewpoint of central Yerevan and Mount Ararat on clear days, making it a popular photo spot at sunrise and sunset.
- Museum in pedestal: The monument includes an indoor museum located in the statue's base that focuses on military history and memorial displays.
What to See #
- Military Museum (pedestal museum): A museum of military history housed within the monument's pedestal, displaying uniforms, weapons and memorial exhibits related to Armenia's 20th-century conflicts.
How to Get to Mother Armenia #
Mother Armenia stands in Yerevan’s Victory Park overlooking the city centre. From downtown Yerevan you can reach the park by taxi or city bus, or take the Yerevan cable car/funicular from the downtown/Cascade area up into Victory Park and then walk a short distance to the statue and museum entrance. It’s a short walk from central Yerevan landmarks.
Tips for Visiting Mother Armenia #
- Visit Mother Armenia in late afternoon for sweeping city views and the best chance of seeing Mount Ararat on a clear day, then linger for the city lights after sunset.
- Approach via Victory Park (Haghtanak Park); the short cable-car/funicular from the Cascade area simplifies the climb and leaves more time to explore the memorial and museum beneath the statue.
- Don't skip the military museum housed under the monument's pedestal and the walks behind the statue-those quieter paths offer different perspectives and often clearer views toward Ararat.
