Mountains Mountain range offering hiking and winter sports

The Moravian-Silesian Beskids are a mountain range in the eastern Czech Republic, part of the Outer Western Carpathians, with the highest peak, Lysá hora, reaching 1,323 metres. The range forms a prominent upland area within the Moravian-Silesian Region.
The Beskids offer alpine-style ridge hiking, marked mountain trails, ski areas and a network of mountain huts and small resorts. Popular destinations within the range include summit hikes to Lysá hora, the pilgrimage ridge of Radhošť and the wooden resort buildings and trails around Pustevny.
The area has long been used for forestry, pastoralism and local mountain agriculture; tourism and winter sports developed in the 20th century alongside conservation of forested slopes. Settlements in the foothills grew with industrialization in nearby valleys.
The range lies in the Moravian-Silesian Region of the Czech Republic near the Polish border, south of the industrial lowlands around Ostrava and near towns such as Frýdek-Místek.
