Most international travelers arrive via Ulaanbaatar Chinggis Khaan International Airport (UBN), Mongolia’s primary gateway and its one major airport handling high volumes of traffic. Ulaanbaatar is also the country’s main travel hub and a common starting point for trips that combine museums and monasteries with onward travel across the steppe.
The other international option is Ölgii Mongolei International Airport (ULG), serving Ölgii in Western Mongolia and Altai, a base for reaching the remote mountains and cultural sites of the region. For domestic flying, airports such as Dalanzadgad Airport (DLZ) are relevant for access toward the Gobi Desert (South) and Gobi Gurvansaikhan National Park, where overland drives can be long. Other scheduled domestic hubs include Choibalsan Airport (COQ), Khovd Airport (HVD), Mörön Airport (MXV), Ulaangom Airport (ULO), and Bayankhongor Airport (BYN), alongside Altai Airport (LTI), Arvaikheer Airport (AVK), and Bulgan Airport (UGA), helping link far-flung regional centers with Ulaanbaatar.
