Miraflores Charterhouse

The Miraflores Charterhouse (Cartuja de Miraflores) is a 15th-century Carthusian monastery located on the outskirts of Burgos in Castile and León, Spain, founded under royal patronage. It is known for its preserved monastic church and high-quality funerary sculpture.

A richly carved and polychromed altarpiece and finely executed Renaissance tombs of royalty, together with cloisters and monastic rooms that survive from the original complex. The church interior shows important examples of late Gothic and early Renaissance sculpture and decoration.

The charterhouse was established in the 1400s as a Carthusian house and served as a royal foundation and burial place; it has been conserved and restored to retain its sculptural and architectural ensemble.

The monastery lies just outside the city of Burgos, a short distance from the city centre, and is accessible by road from Burgos.
