Mir Castle Complex

Mir Castle Complex is a fortified castle ensemble in Belarus dating from the late 15th and early 16th centuries, notable for its brick Gothic architecture and later Renaissance additions. It is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site for its architectural and historic significance.

The complex consists of a main castle with four corner towers, residential chambers and an inner courtyard, originally designed for defence and noble residence. The setting includes moats and fortifications that contributed to its defensive role.

Built as a noble stronghold, the castle later passed through several owners and experienced damage during wars and political upheavals, followed by substantial restoration work in the 20th century. Today it houses museum exhibitions about the site’s history and the region.

The castle is located in the village of Mir in the Grodno region of Belarus and forms a prominent historic landmark within the surrounding rural landscape.
