Mieza (Macedonia)

Mieza is an ancient Macedonian settlement in Central Macedonia, Greece, best known for the site traditionally called the School of Aristotle where, in the late 4th century BCE, Aristotle is recorded as tutoring the young Alexander. The location is an important archaeological and historical site for classical Macedonia.

The archaeological remains include a reconstructed nymphaeum identified with Aristotle’s school and several funerary monuments and foundations from the Hellenistic period. The site is presented as an archaeological park with visible excavations and interpretive panels focusing on its classical-era occupation.

In antiquity Mieza functioned as a Macedonian town and a place of elite residence; its association with Aristotle and Alexander has made it a focal point for historians and visitors interested in classical pedagogy and Macedonian culture.

The ruins lie near the modern village of Lefkadia, close to Naousa in Central Macedonia, Greece, and are accessible by local roads from nearby towns.
