Messeturm
Building Tall Frankfurt skyscraper and historic trade fair landmark
Frankfurt’s Messeturm rises in the Messe district with a stepped pyramid cap visible from the banking quarter. Business travelers and architecture buffs spot it while attending trade fairs or walking the skyline.
Messeturm is an office skyscraper in Frankfurt’s Messe district, notable for its stepped, pyramid-like crown and pinnacled top. The tower was completed in 1990 and at the time was one of Europe’s tallest buildings.
A distinctive feature of the city skyline, the tower rises above the adjacent trade fair complex and hosts office space occupied by finance and trade organisations. Its height and distinctive spire make it a common photographic subject from the River Main and surrounding parks.
Designed by architect Helmut Jahn and finished in 1990, the building was developed to accompany Frankfurt’s expanding trade fair and business activities. For a period after completion it ranked among the tallest skyscrapers in Europe and has remained a key element of the Messe district.
Messeturm stands beside the Messe Frankfurt exhibition grounds in the Westend-Süd area of Frankfurt am Main, in western central Germany, within the city’s main business and fairground precinct.
- Viewing points: There is no public observation deck, so the tower is best viewed from the nearby trade fair grounds, the River Main embankment or skyline viewpoints across the city.
