Memmert is a small uninhabited East Frisian island in the Wadden Sea off the coast of Lower Saxony, Germany. It is managed as a protected nature reserve and is closed to casual visitors.
The island’s landscape is made up of dunes, salt marshes and beaches and provides habitat for breeding seabirds and resting seals. No permanent settlements exist and access is tightly controlled to limit disturbance.
Historically the island was used intermittently for customs and hunting activities but today is reserved for conservation and scientific observation. It lies within the Wadden Sea ecosystem, a tidal area of international ecological importance.
Memmert is located off the northwestern coast of Germany, west of the East Frisian island of Juist and reachable only by authorized boat from the mainland or neighbouring islands under regulated conditions.
