- The island is uninhabited and regarded as sacred-respect local customs and avoid landing without permission from French Polynesian authorities.
- If approaching by boat from Moorea or Tahiti, secure a local navigator familiar with reef passages-landing sites are limited and exposed to swell.
- Bring binoculars: the island is better appreciated from the water, where seabird colonies and volcanic contours are visible.
