Mavrovo Lake

Mavrovo Lake is an artificial reservoir in western North Macedonia, located within the boundaries of Mavrovo National Park. The lake was created in the mid-20th century as part of a hydroelectric and water-management scheme.

The lake’s shoreline is used for boating, fishing and lakeside recreation, and the surrounding park provides hiking and nature-watching opportunities across forested slopes. Nearby resort and village facilities support visitor access to the lake and park.

Formed by dam construction in the mid-20th century, the reservoir reshaped local valleys and became integrated into national park planning and regional tourism. The area combines infrastructure for energy production with conservation and recreational use.

Set in the mountains of western North Macedonia, the lake lies in the Mavrovo and Rostuša municipality within Mavrovo National Park, surrounded by highland terrain and forest.
