Matsunoo Taisha (Matsunoo Grand Shrine) is a Shinto shrine in the Matsuo district of western Kyoto city, traditionally founded in 701. The shrine is notable for its long association with local brewers due to a spring on the shrine grounds.

The shrine precinct contains traditional shrine architecture, ponds and garden features and is visited for seasonal foliage, traditional rites and local festivals. The spring water from the precinct has historically been valued by sake and soy sauce producers in the region.

Founded in 701, the shrine has been maintained and rebuilt over many centuries and has longstanding cultural and religious ties to Kyoto’s local communities and industries. Its fabric and rituals reflect repeated restoration and upkeep by shrine custodians.

The shrine is located in western Kyoto city within the Matsuo neighbourhood, inside Kyoto’s municipal area and accessible from the city’s transport network.
