The Mater Ecclesiae Monastery is a small cloistered convent located within the Vatican Gardens in Vatican City. It was constructed in the late 20th century to house communities of enclosed nuns assigned to pray for the pope.
The monastery gained international attention when Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI took residence there after his resignation in 2013, remaining until his death in 2022. The building and grounds are part of the private Vatican Gardens and are not open to public visitation.
