Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral (Cathédrale Marie-Reine-du-Monde) is the Roman Catholic cathedral in downtown Montreal and the seat of the Archdiocese of Montreal. Its design was consciously modeled on St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome.
The cathedral presents a monumental classical façade and an interior organized around a nave, aisles, and chapels, with religious artworks, altars, and stained glass. It functions as an active place of worship and hosts diocesan ceremonies and liturgies.
Constructed in the late 19th century to serve Montreal’s growing Catholic population, the church was elevated to cathedral status upon completion and became the seat of the archbishop. It has undergone restorations and conservation work to preserve its stonework and interior decoration.
Located in downtown Montreal, the cathedral sits near major civic squares and office districts, making it easily accessible to visitors exploring the city centre.
