Maruyama Park

Maruyama Park is an urban park in the Higashiyama area of Kyoto Prefecture, adjacent to Yasaka Shrine and the historic Gion district. It is one of Kyoto’s well-known public parks, especially during spring cherry blossom season.

The park’s central lawn and paths are planted with numerous cherry trees, and a large, distinctive weeping cherry tree near the centre is a focal point for visitors. The location directly beside Yasaka Shrine and within walking distance of Gion makes it part of common sightseeing circuits.

Established as a public green space in the city’s historic Higashiyama district, the park has long been associated with seasonal festivals and hanami culture. It has been maintained as a municipal park and public gathering place.

Situated in eastern Kyoto city, the park lies immediately east of Yasaka Shrine and within the Gion/Higashiyama neighbourhood, making it easily reachable on foot from central Kyoto.
